Background
In my Master's program at Johns Hopkins, my team advanced a 2-year long startup called "Visilant," a comprehensive anterior eye segment telemedicine-based screening platform. My team traveled to India for four weeks in August to begin a validation study of the current platform and to search for additional unmet needs and opportunities to expand the platform. We have since created a variety of iterations to both improve the current device and app and to create a next-gen platform fit for additional use cases. Some of these include:
- Integrated visual acuity measurement
- Cobalt blue luminescence for corneal pathology
- Deep learning cataract diagnostic algorithm
- Slit lamp functionality for catarct grading
- Focus stacking for increased depth of field
- Patient follow-up dashboard and automated phone calls
- Data analytics platform for allocating hospital resources
